It was announced in last week’s Budget Statement by the Chancellor that the exemption of Climate Change Levy (CCL) for electricity from renewable sources is to be abolished.  This was unforeseen and has, therefore, come as a surprise to the whole electricity supply industry.

For your information full details about this change are contained within this HM Revenue & Customs document.

There are still a number of uncertainties being expressed by both generators and suppliers regarding the announcement and its implications on both them and Customers. As usual in such circumstances electricity suppliers will no doubt take their own view on how best to implement these changes.  It would, however, appear that from 1st August 2015 some suppliers may start to include CCL charges on the invoices of those Customers who have contracted on the basis of renewable energy.

A number of suppliers have now taken the decision, pending further clarification on the impact of these changes, to withdraw their renewable energy offerings for any future Contracts.
