In late 2010, DB Regio Tyne & Wear won the contract to operate, for a period of nine years, the stations and trains running on the light rail network from Nexus, Tyne & Wear’s Passenger Transport Executive. The Metro is used by 40 million passengers a year in Newcastle and Sunderland.
They needed procurement support during the mobilisation phase of the project and so, recognising the wealth of practical experience in all aspects of procurement not least in the UK Rail Sector, engaged FPA Consulting to advise them.
Procurement Director Roger Guest spent 3 months based in Newcastle working as part of the mobilisation team. His remit was to ensure that all commercial arrangements were in place as at the date the concession were transferred to DB Regio Tyne & Wear.
Working proactively with the respective Work Stream Leaders, against strict deadlines, Roger negotiated new arrangements ensuring the best value for money in both tendered and negotiated situations.
The relationship between FPA Consulting and the parent company DB Regio UK goes back a number of years through their close involvement in providing procurement support to Chiltern Railways in numerous areas and during the mobilisation phase of the London Overground concession.
