Energy procurement and invoice validation services

Blackrose pubs has a portfolio of over 40 unique pubs located nationwide, predominantly in the north of the UK. As a fairly new enterprise, the company has aspirational plans for growth and offers a new concept in pub management with a funding model that provides the ability to react positively and quickly to business opportunities and new investments.

FPA Consulting had previously worked with senior managers in former roles and was appointed to manage the energy strategy for each pub and the head office. This included the commercial contracting for the supply of electricity and natural gas to the business along with the validation of subsequent supply invoices for electricity, natural gas and water.

Contracting Review

Electricity and natural gas are traded commodities and are, therefore, subject to complex market costs, price risk and volatility.

Having gained an understanding of the business requirements with respect to energy usage we were then able to determine the most economically advantageous price-risk and sustainable management strategy for each commodity.

The procurement process required specialist market knowledge and experience in order to ensure the most cost-effective supply Contract was sourced.

An independent fully open book procurement exercise was undertaken with Invitations to Tender being issued to a wide selection of UK energy suppliers.  Tender responses were then evaluated and clarified where necessary, with subsequent bid summaries issued to the business for consideration.

Best and final offers were then requested from the preferred supplier prior to finalising new supply Contract arrangements.

Procurement and validation

Utility invoices can be confusing with typically incorrect commodity and third-party charges to estimated meter reads, or even the wrong meter appearing on an invoice, which all cost money and time to resolve.

Following the award of supply Contract arrangements, utility invoices for the business are received by FPA Consulting and validated to ensure that consumption taken and prices charged by the suppliers are in accordance with the supply Contract arrangements.  Any anomalies identified are managed through to resolution accordingly.
