Morley Hayes Golf Hotel & Restaurants

Commercial contracting for supply of electricity

Situated in the Derbyshire countryside, Morley Hayes is an award-winning AA 4* hotel, golf, restaurant, conference and wedding events venue.

The hotel comprises 32 rooms including executive rooms, family rooms, and a range of suites. The Dovecote Restaurant offers guests a fine dining experience with the Roosters Bar and Restaurant providing the perfect informal location to meet with friends to enjoy a quiet drink or meal. The venue also boasts a wealth of conference and events suites to host weddings and events for up to 100 people.

Renowned for superb golf facilities, the venue offers the championship 18-hole Manor and the 9-hole Tower course, both set amongst acres of beautiful parkland. Facilities also include a 17-bay floodlit driving range with café, a pro-shop, spike bar, patio dining and function room.

As a busy venue, energy consumption represents a major cost overhead which needed to be managed effectively and in line with seasonal variations so that profits and cashflow remain controlled and within budget.

Our Approach

Stage 1 - Review
Stage 2 - Solution

Understanding Business Requirements

Our approach commenced with a review exercise to understand the exact business requirements with respect to energy usage, allowing us to assess demand profiles and ensure Morley Hayes had a fit for purpose electricity supply arrangement in place.

This busy hotel was subject to many fluctuations in energy supply needs according to hotel and restaurant occupancy, seasonal lighting requirements across the complex, in particular floodlights for the driving range during winter, and electric vehicle charging point demands.

The company has already established a robust Environmental Policy which includes current energy saving practices such as installation of low energy lighting, sensors/controls for lighting, heating and air conditioning and biomass fed boilers.

To compliment these initiatives it was, therefore, necessary to ensure the most competitive electricity supply arrangements were sourced to take full advantage of both usage and cost saving opportunities.

Dynamic Demand Profile

Our review and analysis enabled us to determine the most economically advantageous price-risk management strategy for the procurement of the energy commodity.

We prepared an invitation to tender document including specific demand profiles and commercial requirements which we subsequently issued to a wide selection of UK electricity suppliers.

The Tender responses were evaluated and clarified where necessary, and subsequent bid summaries and guidance were issued to Morley Hayes for consideration.

Having agreed the preferred bidder, we requested best and final offers and then finalised new supply contract arrangements for our client.

As a result of a thorough understanding of business operations and the dynamic demand profile of their annual energy usage, we were able to help our client secure the most cost-effective energy supply contract.

Specialist Market Knowledge

This procurement process required specialist market knowledge and experience in order to ensure the most cost-effective supply contract could be sourced.  As a result of our review and appointment of the preferred suppliers, Morley Hayes can now be confident their energy supply contract will meet their business requirements.

Morley Hayes can now be confident their energy supply contract will meet their business requirements.

“Electricity is a traded commodity and subject to complex market costs, price risk and volatility. Energy prices have never been so high on the company agenda given recent geo-political events. Prices have risen at an unprecedented pace and to record levels. It was, therefore, of the upmost importance to the business to ensure that our energy supply requirements were being managed accordingly. By engaging with experts in energy procurement who are able to leverage their years of experience and buying expertise Morley Hayes is now confident that it has the most cost-effective supply agreements in place.
